Ways you can make a charitable donation

When you decide to donate to a charity, a ton of options open up to you. There are plenty of ways to give back besides just simply writing a check to your charity of choice. There is no reason you cannot contribute in your own way.

Here are some other ways you can donate to charity in addition to breaking open your wallet:

Donating time.

Volunteering does not cost you a thing and what it requires in terms of commitment, it pays off in so many other ways. Volunteering is the perfect way to get involved in a cause you care about. You can take a hands-on approach to solving problems and moving forward important work in any number of areas. Whether you have a day or even a couple of hours to give, committing time to any charitable cause is a worthwhile endeavor. Take some time and search for a cause that corresponds with what you believe in and matches your own talents and abilities.

Donating food and clothing.

There are many people who lack warm clothing or food to put on the dinner table. You can help alleviate these circumstances through timely donations. Contact your local food bank to find out when and how you can donate. Donating clothing is a good way to clean out your closet. You can dispose of clothes that you have outgrown or no longer wear, but are still in good condition. It does not need to be limited to what you do personally. You can talk with your bosses and organize a food or clothing drive at your workplace.

Donating your car.

Perhaps you have decided to upgrade your current automobile for a newer model with lower mileage. Instead of taking out a classified ad to sell your old car, donating it can be the perfect way to get it our of your driveway and accomplish a good dead at the same time. It does require some work, but donating your car to charity is a much better alternative than selling it for pocket change or sending it off to a junkyard.

Charity Gives A True Sense Of Happiness

Every day people spend millions across the globe looking for happiness.  We buy movies, ornaments, books, alcohol and drugs, all in the search of happiness. It is the eternal quest for joy that drives the world forward. We buy and buy but we are never satisfied. It seems all the pleasures of the world, all the luxuries and all the comforts can’t satisfy our craving for more. Why is this? The reason is that most people are doing the exact opposite of what they should be doing to get true joy.

They spend more and more, in the hope that they can exchange the cash in their hand for happiness. They never realize that they can’t do that. The only real joy is in the joy of giving. Instead of using money for buying things, try giving it to someone who needs it to buy food or provide a roof over his or her children’s heads. That is true happiness. The feeling you get when you see someone else happy because of your help, that is the only kind of happiness that anyone can ever hope to have on this earth.

It is the same joy a mother has when she sees the child she raised reach great heights, it is the same joy a teacher has when he sees his student become someone greater than himself. That is the joy of giving. That is why charities are so important not only to the people receiving it, but to those who give it. It provides a helping hand to a desperate person who has no other hope and provides satisfaction that cannot be matched by any worldly pleasure to the person giving it.

Giving to a charitable cause gives you a true sense of happiness that stays in your heart even if your wallet is a little lighter.

Social Capital

We consider ourselves to be rich in many ways.  We think of the land we own, the money we have in the bank, the cash we have in our wallet, the big house we live in, we think of so many different kinds of assets. Have you ever thought of another kind of asset? The asset of friendships, or respect from somebody you helped out in a fix. Some call it social capital. It is a form of richness, perhaps the best kind. It is an intangible asset. You cannot capture it in your account book or put a numerical value to it.

You cannot say I have so many units of social capital. But that is the best thing about it. You can depend on it when you think you are broke in terms of every other asset. You may be in a helpless situation when an old friend you once helped out turns up to help you out of your predicament. That is an asset that cannot be quantified and should not be. It is the asset of human relationships. Yet most of us do not think of such a sort of asset.  Many blindly chase after money and power, not knowing that the fanfare that comes with it lasts only as long as you are healthy and able to provide for yourselves and many who have plenty of social capital do not realize their own power and wealth.

They do it purely for the right reasons, but consider themselves poor. These people too should realize that they are wealthy right here, right now. That theirs is the only kind of wealth that matters, the asset of respect and love. Social capital can buy you other kinds of capital, but not the other way around. You can’t buy this particular kind of asset. You have to earn it.

Homelessness in Society

We’ve all seen the woman begging for change on a street corner or the man asleep on a park bench, but have we ever thought about how they may have gotten there?

Many people in our society are just one step away from being homeless. Whether they can’t find work or have other financial or personal issues, everyday thousands walk the fine line between having a home and living on the streets.

So, if you are one of the fortunate ones, please give to those in need. Charities are in need of many things during the holidays, even things as simple as laundry detergent and shampoo can go a long way in helping a family in need.

Take a minute and imagine yourself living in your car. The only things that you have in the entire world are stored inside that car, so how many things are you doing without. Food? Clean clothes? A shower? A warm bed? There are so many things people take for granted every day that the homeless and others in need have to go without. So, take some of your own wealth and spread it around to your fellow man.

Donating to charities will not only help those in need, but it will help you along the way as well. For instance, giving away clothes that you don’t wear very often or that don’t fit you anymore will clear out a lot of space in your closet. By letting your children go through their toys and donate the ones they don’t want to play with anymore, not only will you be making another child in the world happy, but you are also getting rid of some of the clutter in your home.

This holiday season, be sure to share your wealth with those in need. You never know how much good your donations will do. It could even save someone’s life.
