Helping homeless children

It is no secret that millions of people throughout the world live in poverty and many of those people are homeless. As sad as that fact is, what is sadder is that children make up a significant portion of that homeless population.

Being homeless is especially hard on a child. Their current hardships often serve to crush their spirits and quench their dreams. It is tough to create a better life when you have little or no access to food, clothing, shelter or education. Fortunately, there are ways we can help homeless children build a better life for themselves.

Here are some ideas on how you can help a homeless child:

  • Give money.

Multiple charities are devoted exclusively to helping children. Make a list and evaluate which ones are the best at doing it. Research how they spend donations and what services they offer to a child in need. Once you find the right charity, give a donation amount that you think will prove most helpful down the road.

  • Build a relationship.

Giving money is not enough to help a needy child. It is essential to form a bond with them. They need your presence too. Sure, having money will help with their day-to-day survival. But your presence can be much more valuable to them than any amount of money they receive.

  • Be a tutor.

Offer children you are helping educational opportunities. Give them a chance to learn. Some charities do not have enough workers to meet the educational needs of children in their care. You can help by volunteering to teach them basics like math, reading and science. Make learning fun by taking them on field trips to places like the museum or the zoo.

If you commit time and energy to improving the life of a homeless child, you will open a door to a better life they never thought possible.

Charity Donations For Educational Causes

Donating to educational charities can help bring books, educational tools and lesson plans to those who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn. In addition to offering a monetary charity donation to educational charities, people can donate their time and teaching skills. Books are often appreciated as are other school supplies such as pencils, pens, paper and notebooks. In addition, some educational organizations have even gotten funds for mobile schools. A mobile school is generally a large bus or recreational vehicle that goes from location to location and acts as a type of mobile classroom. There students, young and old can learn with the help of volunteer teachers.

High school students can even volunteer to these types of educational charities. They can, with the permission of their parents volunteer at a mobile school, perhaps one day a week after school, to teach basic skills such as math and reading to those in educational need. Other educational charities sometimes hold school supplies drives. These drives are often advertised at companies, where employees can bring in school supplies and drop them into a special box for donation to an educational charity. The donation of school supplies does not need to be expensive. People can donate any amount of supplies that they can afford. Even gently used schools supplies are sometimes accepted.

Donating to educational charities can also involve bringing the arts into those schools who do not have an art program. People can bring in pictures of artwork into the classrooms and talk about the artist, method of painting, genre of the artwork and when the piece was painted. Bringing culture and the arts into schools is a great example of volunteering one’s time and offering a charity donation to an educational cause. Some educational charitable organizations are so small that they do not get much publicity, but some can be found by conducting an online search.
